I watch certain threads of discussion closely here, particularly those about Arduino, ARM, Linux, and boards that have any combination of these features. I’ve been seeing, and participating in, discussions about all of these, but there is no real place to keep discussions about ARM boards that do not run an operating system, such as the teensy3.1, Arduino Due, any Cortex-M processors, etc.
I propose that Lyxmotion start such a forum here. I think it would be a great thing for Lynxmotion and everyone else!
Certainly. Next question is, how would it be best to set up these discussions? We are still considering merging the forums and would like a structure which makes intuitive sense; would the parent category simply be “microcontroller” or would people prefer it be subdivided into microprocessor types? Open to ideas. Would the focus of the thread be simply to find the best one / discuss pros and cons of each or work through issues?
Could make it something generic like they do on Trossen, where they have something like: Brains on my Robot
If you are following the current layout, could easily be under Electronics
This could work, for sure. I was looking for a more generic term that might cover more than maybe just ARM7, Cortex-M, etc. So many different processors are coming out these days, at all levels. I think as long as we can create new threads, it would be pretty good. I think we need to have these discussions here because each new device has the potential to become part of a Lynxmotion product.
It would be appropriate to put a new forum like this in the Electronics catagory.
I am not in favor of a forum merge. These forums have a uniqueness and flavor that is difficult to put your finger on, but it’s definitely there. For instance, this is the ONLY robotics forum I frequent. I might read others, but I don’t post much, if at all on them. This is a true community, and it should not be combined or merged with another. I really believe you would lose something very valuable if you merge these forums with another.
The parent catagory can be Electronics, like kurte suggests. I don’t see any need to create a brand new catagory. I like kurte’s idea of a name something like “Brains of our Robots” under Electronics, but I’m not sure I care for that specific name. A name similar to that would make sense though, and would give us a place to discuss other processors that aren’t covered elsewhere here.
Well, yes, of course! We are always in a quest to find the best processor for our robots that has just the right feature set for what we want to do. We would do what we always do here - search for the best, find out about the best from others, and get help using these in our robots. These forums have a unique flavor I don’t want to see messed with.
