Force sensitive 3D printed BB-8

Hi,

At first, it was just supposed to be a figurine, but I couldn't resist to give it a little brain (Arduino Nano). I have been working on a bigger project these last months, this was a short and fun break ;)

So, what does it do ? If you focus on it with the Force, it moves its head and makes some electronic noises. Ok, it uses and ultrasonic sensor to detect your hand :)

The model is not from me, I found it on Thingiverse : http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:789759 . I added the base.

All the printed parts and components (Arduino Nano, servomotor, SRF-04 etc.) before assembly :

Same thing, after sanding, painting and varnishing :

The main board holds a Nano, a buzzer et 3 terminals (to power and ultrasonic sensor).

Here is the main box filled with all components :

The servomotor is attached in the middle of the case.

I used a pipe to join the servo axis to the head. I printed 2 joins for both pipe's ends.

You can see the mechanism, without the body :

BB-8 can be powered either by USB or a 9V battery.

May the Force be with you ! ;)

Code is available here.

Moves head and makes noise when triggered by the Force ;)
