Flexinol Wire - petal movement - how to activate and control

Hi folks,
Rookie here ;p I’m trying to make a flower petal open and close for indefinite period of time. As you see from my videos below using strings and a servo, but it’s not sustainable and inconsistent (line breakage, tension softens with time, plastic spine breaks/doesn’t retract).

SEWING FLEXINOL:
I just saw this…thought this may be the best way … sew the flexinol wire around a paper spine of the petal, but my problem is… how is it activated? Where does the crimp go? Where do the ± wires go? How to control how to start and stop the movement?

Tools: I’ve got Parallax servos, homework board as well, but am I making it more complicated?

This is my setup which doesn’t work (line breakage, tension softens with time, plastic spine breaks/doesn’t retract):

and a diagram of my setup…although not complete and parts unnecessary.

Help!

We strongly suggest a starer kit which includes everything you need to experiment with Flexinol.
After you understand the basic principles and limitations, you can then adapt it to your project.
