Fixing a Roomba

Hello everyone!

I have a Roomba Discovery (405 I think), which won’t charge its battery. It otherwise seemed to be working fine, but without charging capabilities it is quite useless to us and it’s been in storage for a long while. My wife has given me an ultimatum to get it fixed or get rid of it. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to do it myself, so I would need to find someone not too far from Montreal who could fix it. Does anybody know where I could find a Roomba repair service near Montreal (mostly so I don’t have to pay horrendous shipping charges)?

Otherwise, how would you recommend getting rid of it?

Thank you very much,

PabloB

I know it is not the battery because I did buy a new one at the time and the problem was not fixed (in fact, the new battery never got charged properly as I did not have an external charger). From my web investigations, it is most likely to be a blown regulator in the motherboard, although I could not confirm it.

Is there an easy way to confirm that? How much time do you think it would take for someone who never opened up a Roomba to change the motherboard? My problem is that I can’t really afford too much time, and unfortunately I did not manage to send it to you guys before the repair center was restricted to in-house bought Roombas. :frowning:

Thanks!

After replacement or repair your Roomba vacuum you should keep some tips in mind. Tips like regular maintenance of your vacuum robots. When it comes to electronic products it is compulsory to maintain. It should provide you long time working with your Roomba.

We can certainly help by troubleshooting your robot and providing replacements parts. We also have manuals in order for you to repair your robot vacuum yourself.

If it was purchased with us, you can also sent it to our repair center.

Do you remember how long you had the robots battery before it stopped charging? Did it last for a few minutes or not at all? The fix could be as easy as purchasing a new battery.

The only other thing to verify before replacing the motherboard is the output voltage of your charger. Please make sure the light on your charger is solid green and verify that the output voltage is 22V with a voltmeter.

Replacing the motherboard by following our manuals will take an hour at most if you are comfortable with a screwdriver and pliers.

Your other option, would be to consider the purchase of a new robot. We offer $40 off any new vacuum if you send us your defective robot. We also offer a limited lifetime warranty on all robot vacuums purchased with us.
