First time's a charm

This is a little bit of reminiscing…

I purchased a Carpet Rover 1 in 1997, which was my first advanced ‘I-don’t-have-to-solder-this’ kit. It used a Basic Stamp 1 as the microcontroller, an IRPD that I had to put several layers of tape over the receiver so ambient light wouldn’t make the bot freak out…I think I used some multi-colored ribbon cable to connect the IRPD to the BS1 ‘board’ (I would look but I’ve loaned the bot to my middle school shop teacher to show his kids who finish their woodworking projects fast)…I had to take apart the servos, cut off the POT and solder in two 2k-Ohm (?) resistors in its stead. There weren’t servo brackets!

Ah I could go on and on…

This ended up being my best-performing robot in my 10-year span as a robot enthusiast…so far.

Well, that’s my story, maybe this belongs in the customer comments section.

Lynxmotion…almost 10 years later, and no regrets.

Thanks,

Mike D
