First project

Hi everyone! I’ve been giving some thought to a project I’d like to try and wanted some advice on what parts I would need or resources I could use. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve been doing some research into possible parts and I have come across 2 parts that I decently sure I need. The first is a hall effect sensor because I am trying to detect speed of a spinning wheel. The second one I am actually unsure about. I am trying to detect an arms rotation with a fair degree of accuracy (movement will probably only be 10 degrees to either side). I’ve been looking at accelerometers but I’ve also been considering a flex sensor. I’d like to be able to connect both to my computer through a single USB to collect the information if that is possible.

Like I said before any recommendations as far as direction or products to get would by greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Goliath520

Flex sensors are still unfortunately very inaccurate. A high resolution encoder should provide good positioning (though not absolute), or a high accuracy potentiometer connected to a high resolution ADC. An accelerometer does give absolute positioning, so it will depend on the accuracy and communication method of the accelerometer you choose.
