I’m trying to find a replacement brushed dc motor for a motor that broke in an electronic device we use in our lab. I would go through the manufacturer of the equipment but they always charge us through the nose and would require us to send the entire unit back and waste at least 6-8 weeks (their usual time scale for repairs, regardless how small) instead of just sending me the motor. I took some measurements and see that the board the motor is connected to outputs 5V and 10mA to the motor and the motor rotates at 11rpm. I don’ t know what torque is required, but the motor shaft (2mm) rotates a 12 tooth gear on a belt that moves an electronic component back and forth on a track.
The center of the shaft is 12mm off the floor and the space is relatively confined so the motor body has to be in the ballpark of 2cm long. I have searched pretty extensively but have struggled to find a motor with comparable specs, and a few manufacturers have told me it would take 12 weeks on the low end to make a custom one since none of them have motors like it in stock. Can someone please direct me towards a manufacturer with a really large catalog of low voltage DC motors, or perhaps help me think of an alternate solution since this is not my area of expertise? I wouldn’t know how to go about transforming a motor with different specs into outputting the same movement with gear ratios. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
