I just finished building the AL5D robotic arm and am having difficulty with the servo for the gripper. I have the A gripper installed on it currently and when I tested it out in the LynxTerm program everything worked OK including the gripper. Then when I went into the Dual Lynx Arm controller, I could no longer operate the gripper. I played around with it for a minute until I noticed that the servo for the gripper was extremely hot. I shut everything down immediately and did not return to it for at least a few hours. Now the gripper does not respond at all even in the LynxTerm program. This thing is brand new and I haven’t had it very long but I am afraid that the servo for the gripper may need to be replaced. The funny thing though, is that the servo will still get warm when I try to operate it but nothing else happens. Do you guys have any advice? Maybe something is binding inside the servo?
Thanks in advance.
Two things can cause this. You may have inadvertently commanded the gripper to an unobtainable position, or the gripper was assembled incorrectly causing binding. Some images would be helpful. Were you able to open and close the gripper by hand with no power applied?
If you send me the servo I can get it replaced for you.
Thanks. I know for a fact that the gripper was installed and assembled properly. As for the latter, I can not be too sure. Can I send the servo back and do you still want me to post some pictures of the setup? Also, does anyone have any advice on a good way to run the wires to the gripper when using the heavy duty wrist upgrade? The online instructions didn’t seem to give much in the way of properly running the wire so as to avoid its getting entangled in the gears of the wrist rotate.
With all the products we have that are interchangeable it’s difficult to have an assembly guide for every combination. The best advice would be to just leave enough slack and use wire ties to hold the wire away from the gears.
I am returning the servo to you for replacement. Is there any special instructions that I need to follow? Thanks.
Just wanted to say that once again (along with everyone else) I am completely blown away by the awesome service that I have received from you guys. Got the servo back right away. Thanks again and you can bet that I will be making many more purchases with you guys. Awesome service all around. (Had to say it again!)
