i want to build a power supply from a 36v rechargeable battery (maybe a drill battery?) that can power 4 no. EV3 bricks (not necessarily at once!) can anyone help?

The EV3 takes 6xAA batteries, so the voltage is either 1.2 x 6 = 7.2V ot 1.5V x 6 = 9V. They also have a rechargeable 2S LiPo battery.
36V would need a voltage regulator since apply 36V would burn the unit immediately.
You should consider a 2S LiPo battery, and you’ll have to figure out how to split it to multiple packs since they do not accept “standard” connectors.
