End of school/ New calculator

Well as of lately i havent been to active on LMR (youll have to excuse the lack of punctuation and poor grammar as ill be writing this in a hurry). I got out of school this monday and i still have 2 remaining finals, which i feel woefully unprepared for, one of them being tomorrow. On top of that i recently ordered some bike parts from england which put quite a hole in my wallet thanks to the exchange rate. But, as of today i own my first graphing calculator which cost me $150 or two weeks of work. Its pretty intense and im assuming i could create a few robots with the chips inside but i just thought i'd let you guys know that i havent died/lost interest. Here are a couple pics, ones next to my old calculator (standard scientific) for comparison. My new calculator also has a usb port on top, along with a jack for a temperature probe/whatever else uses it (idk at this point) The instruction manual also happens to be 312 pages long and includes a glossary...

The ti89 titanium (I have one too) uses a 68000 motorola processor, which is a beast. Best not to take it apart and do what was linked.

Got one of those last year,

Got one of those last year, a casio (green one), great for putting your classes in it so that you can "jog your memory" durring a test !

at over 100$ a thing you might whant to be carefull with it!

Man, I remember those “Graphing” days…

I graduated in ‘95 so graphing calcs were not that old when I got to them… I can’t believe you have to shell-out your own dough! At any rate, as said above, don’t forget that you can add some “helpers” into the memory during tests (you’re not fooling anyone if you have a calculator out for an English test, test though). Also (and I feel friggin’ old when I say this) learn what you can in school… I was the smart-ass kid who said “when am I going to use this in real life?” and boy, did that bite me in the ass. I had to re-learn almost everything I had learned in math (especially geometery) later in life, slapping my forehead the whole time.

My advice to you (and the advice I teach my kids) I work really hard for what I earn. Don’t be a dumb-ass like me, think for a living and avoid working for a living.

older, but no wiser

I’m a few years ahead of you Chris, but I can’t think of the last time that I used anything that I learned in school except the basics - reading, writing, arithmatic and woodworking. I know a lot of stuff now (modest or what?), but most of it I couldn’t have learned at school.

My better half is a university professor, and even she doubts the benefit of a modern education. There’s a strong possibility that we won’t encourage our kids to go to uni.

lol, I did in fact use some
lol, I did in fact use some "helpers" on my math final, the night before i decided i didnt want to memorize all the formulas. Hopefully ill remember most of the math i learned, I plan to pursue math related courses in college (aeronautic/aerospace). On a side note i just finished my last final, and ill be ordering my parts from sparkfun when I get back from cali (to look at colleges : (.)
