I have a 775 dc motor that I’d like to make Arduino controlled with an encoder to keep track of the motion—looking for advice on what encoder may be suitable for an 8mm shaft. Also, if there are any considerations to make regarding the speed, as the motor I’m using is up to 20000rpm at 24 volts.
Hello @JonB and welcome to the RobotShop forum,
I gave a quick look at the Encoders & Disks section of the store and unfortunately, I couldn’t find one compatible with a 8mm shaft. However, I thought this information might come in handy to you:
Encoder for High-Speed Control (> 500 RPM) — Select an encoder with a moderate or low number of states and a sufficiently high maximum speed rating. There is usually not a need for a high-precision optical encoder. A good rule of thumb that is usually sufficient for most applications is (speed in RPM) × (encoder resolution in CPT) > 100,000.
