Electronic Clutch

Hi all,

I have a small petrol motor from a leaf blower that ive always wanted to build a robot out of. My plan is to build a robot like a tiny car that i can control with a remote and eventually make autonomous.

The issue that im stuck on is how to stop the robot without stalling the motor? What i need is a clutch of some sort. I was wondering if there is an electronic clutch that i can engage nad disengage remotely?

Or is there any other way i can work this? I have seen the centrifugal clutches that chainsaws have but would prefer something i have more control over.

Thanks, Ben

Electric clutch

I’ve stripped out lots of laser printers and they’ve all had several electric clutches in them.

These ones are kind of cool.

I bought two of these from a store called “princess auto” but I am sure you could find some on a surplus website somewhere, they are called “dual direction clutches” and depending on the pair of wires you send 12v into, it will either idle, turn the output shaft one way, or the other.
