Dynamixel parameters

Good day.
I have a couple of questions about dynamixel servos mx-series.

  1. Is it possible to use them in an “encoder mode” (when the shaft can be freely rotated(no power on motor?) and you can just receive encoder data from the servo)? If yes, how this can be achieved?
  2. Are there any ready-ro-use wireless solutions for these servos, to control it via bluetooth, for example?

  1. Yes, it should be possible to do this if you leave the Torque Enable (0x18) register set to off (0), and then you should be able to read the Present Position (0x24 & 0x25) registers for the encoder position.

  2. We don’t know of any ready-made products for this, but if you’re getting the “R” version of the MX servos, you could combine an RS-485 to UART converter with a bluetooth module, like these:
