Dynamixel coupler (MX-64)

Hello,

I’ve been looking for a suitable servo motor for my project and found out that the Dynamixel MX-64 would perform perfectly in many aspects. However I need to couple the servo to a shaft that is in my robot. I can however not find such a coupler for Dynamixel servos (they do exist for some other brands). Am I just bad at searching for couplers or do they really not exist?

If such ready-to use part does not exist does anyone maybe have some suggestions on how I could attach the servo to a shaft?

Any help is appreciated.

Most of the accessories produced by Robotis for the Dynamixel series are in the form of bent brackets as opposed to different horns.
The issue with Dynamixel is that their splines are not standard, and as such, shaft adapters made for Hitec / Futaba are not compatible.
Should you find a suitable product elsewhere, feel free to bring it to our attention and we would be happy to look into entering it.

That is a shame. I was already fearing that something like that would be the case. (As far as I’m aware they don’t even give the official specifications of their splines so you can’t produce anything yourself).

It does seem strange though to have such high-end motors while not providing any of those fairly standard adapters.

Either way, I’ll have to find a solution to that then. I’ll post if I find something interesting in this regard.

Here’s my solution:

It’s an adapter between the MX-64 output and a 10mm shaft (this could be keyed also if needs be)
