Hello,
Is it normal for a Dynamixel MX-12W to exhibit considerable backlash, or have I received a defective unit?
Thank you.
Hello,
Is it normal for a Dynamixel MX-12W to exhibit considerable backlash, or have I received a defective unit?
Thank you.
There may be a little backlash, but there should not be anything “considerable”. Can you describe how you get this backlash? Is it under load or not powered on the desk with nothing connected?
The backlash is apparent in both its powered and unpowered state. I noticed it right out of the box. The servo is minimally loaded under my application – backlash still present.
The backlash seems considerable to me. Compared to standard hobby servos, the Dynamixel feels sloppy.
Can you estimate the backlash in degrees (before the gears mesh)?
About 2.2 degrees, according to the encoder.
We have contacted the manufacturer and will get back to you as soon as we receive a reply.
Thank you. To disclose, I am also in contact with Robotis US – asking the same question.
Hi, They confirmed they received your message and provided the same reply - they suspect it’s normal since the MX-12W has a very low gear ratio. They will confirm and get back to you directly.
Update: confirmed.
