Dual motor controller with feedback for Raspberry Pi

Hello,
I’m currently building a lower limb exoskeleton that uses a pair of linear actuators for locomotion. The actuators require 5A at 12V fully loaded, and include potentiometer feedback. I’m using a Raspberry Pi 3B for processing sensor data with Python. Could anyone recommend a motor controller/ H-bridge that would be best suited to use with a Raspberry Pi with the following requirements…

  • Dual motor
  • Bidirectional
  • 12V, 5A
  • Potentiometer feedback
  • PWM (low frequency ~1-2Hz)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello @Circuitbreaker,

Welcome to RobotShop community.

You can check our dual motor controllers from this link:

You can use a Sabertooth controller (12A and above) or maybe the Cytron controller (10A)

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Sincerely,

Thanks for the reply @Ebram.

I had been looking at getting the Waveshare MC3386 motor driver for the Pi. Do you an opinion about this one versus the ones you recommended?

Hello @Circuitbreaker,

Thank you for your reply.

This is a good driver as well but it’s always better to have a driver that can handle more than the current that you would ever have.

So it’s better to have a driver that can handle more than 5A so it wouldn’t heat up and get burnt out fast.

Sincerely,
