Does the BB2 and/or BAP-28m require Ring Idicator pin?

I’m modifying my serial cable and extending it by splitting a network cable into it.
It’s the cheapest and fastest way to add 4 feet to my serial cable.
However network cables only have 8 pins, and serial cables 9.

So does either the BB2 or BAP-28m require the ring indicator pin? Pin 9?

Giving the cable i use is shielded, i could use the shield as the 9th wire, so all 9 pins can be attacked, but i’d prefer not to if it can be avoided. Thank you.

According to the below data sheet, you only need four wires for TX, RX, DTR, and ground. As such, you could use thin telephone cat3 four conductor wire which is more flexable and inexpensive.

I was actually going to make a full serial extension, incase i need the serial for other devices,
But making a simple extension just for programming should probably work just fine.

Thanks for the idea. Now i gotta dig up a long and flexible 4 wire telephone wire.
Oh and find a male and female serial plug, that ones gonna be hard.

Although not cheap, you can get what you need at Radio Shack and skip the mail order time and shipping charges.
