Distance radar sensor

Hello
I’m designing a small installation for kids.

They can manipulate and move ( X,Y axis) a screen, just front of a big printed world map. Behind this screen, i’m looking for one or two IR distance sensor system which I can connect to the PC (Arduino or else), which can tell me the exact position of the screen X,Y. The size of the map is nearly 3 m * 2 m.

Is anyone can help me and advice me on which distance sensor ?

Many thanks

Hello @Simon6767 and welcome to the RobotShop community,

Could you give more details about the setup you have in mind? Maybe make a sketch?

At first, I thought that a gesture sensor or HAT could help you but I’m not 100% sure I understand what you want to achieve.

Do you want to get the position of something in front of the small screen you are referring to (in this case the gesture sensor I mentioned before would help) or do you want to get the position of the screen in relation to the big map behind it?

Hello @geraldinebc15 , many thanks for your answer.
It is the screen that moves in front of the big map. I therefore seek to integrate ayu back of the screen an IR disatnce sensor, allowing to always know

its position relative to a frame, which could be around the big map.

I was thinking of 2 sensors, one for the X axis, the other for the Y axis, to know its position.

But perhaps other systems exist …

Oh! Now I understand the setup you have in mind. Thank you very much for the sketches!

And yes, two distance sensors could do the trick! You could either use Infrared or Ultrasonic range finders, here’s a great list that compares the models available in the store:

If your installation will be indoors IR sensors are a great option, just make sure the sensor can cover the 3 m range, this could be a good option:

Many thanks @geraldinebc15 !
I have this one in mind, i’m now more sure !
I 'll send you picture of the installation
