Difference between Atom and Atom Pro

I’m building an EH1 kit and wanted to use the BASIC Atom Board. I’m wondering which chip I should choose between the Atom 28 and Atom Pro 28.

Also, for ease of testing, I’d like to use some of the sample code off the website. Can either of these take the code as is?

I’d like something that I can reuse later in a more complex robot once I get the hang of things.

What would you guys recommend?

Thanks,

Lou

I heard that the AtomPro is slower while being more expensive. I would go with the Atom28.

As for the code running “out of the box” I’m not sure about that. You may need to make some small changes to suit your needs.

The Atom Pro is much faster than the Atom.

Atom = 33,000 instructions per second.
Atom Pro = 100,000 instructions per second.

Um… and they are the same price. $49.95.

However the pro has issues with the BotBoard and it’s Play Station 2 game controller port. The I/O pins used for this interface are 3.3v pins, which usually isn’t a problem, but will not work with the PS2 controller. The fix is to move the controller to other pins, but a pullup resistor needs to be added to the back of the board. This is covered in this post.

Other than that the Pro has more hardware, Program RAM, User RAM, EEProm, etc.

Jim,

Is it possible for me to order the EH1AC-KT Extreme Hexapod 1 kit but swap out the Atom for the Atom Pro 28 since they are the same price? I’d really like the faster processor and more memory.

Also, I think I’ll need to order a battery, but what about the battery connector? Does it come with the kit or do I need to purchase one?

Sorry for all the questions. I’m just trying to get everything in on one order.

Thanks,

Lou

No problem on the swap. You just type it into the comments section of the order form. The BATC-01 isn’t included right now, so you’ll have to order it seperately.

Oh boy, I blew that out of the water. That’s what happens when you guess.
