DFRobotShop ROver vs RobotShop Rover

I’m new to robotics and want to make an autonomous robot. I am considering either the DFRobotShop Rover or the RobotShop Rover because they are based on Arduino.

]What are the major differences are between the two kits? /:m]
]Is one larger than the other and are they intended for the same purpose?/:m]
]What additional components would be needed for the RB-Rbo-33?/:m]
]Can a 3.7V LiPo battery be used to power both the chip and motors or just the motor?/:m]
]Would you suggest one over the other for an autonomous robot?/:m]

Thanks,

RB-Rbo-12 (RobotShop Rover) includes far more components than RB-Rbo-33 (DFRobotShop Rover)such as a pan/tilt with two servos, an IR sensor, solderless breadboards and cables etc, and is made up of separate standard components whereas RB-Rbo-33 incorporates as much of the electronics into the single PCB to reduce the price.

RB-Rbo-12 is a a physically larger and slower platform. It has space for three mini solderless breadboards (when using the pan/tilt). You can also create a far larger second level.

The choice is yours. We suggest adding an IR sensor and bracket, perhaps an accelerometer and a shield (ensuring the pins are compatible).

You can really only use a 3.7V LiPo with the DFRobotShop Rover. There is an onboard LiPo charger included on the DFRobotShop Rover V1.5. The battery can power the entire robot including motors and microcontroller and several low current electronics via the I/O pins.

5.Would you suggest one over the other for an autonomous robot?
The DFRobotShop Rover is an excellent starter platform and is as bare-bones as they come. The RobotShop Rover is a classic tank robot which includes far more parts than the DFRobotShop Rover. If you are going to use most of the components associated with the RobotShop Rover, then it’s a very good deal. If you want to start out from scratch and add your own components, then DFRobotShop Rover is the better choice.
