Hello,
I’m looking for a robot kit for my son and have no idea about them. I’m looking at buying the DFRobotShop Rover V2. I just had a few questions…First how is the robot operated once complete? Is there a controller or does it operate by way of blue tooth. I see there is an accessory pin connector that is recommended to buy with it, what is this for and what does it do? Lastly, is this kit just a snap / screw together or is there some soldering required.
Thanks,
Mike
There are several different versions of the DFRobotShop Rover:
robotshop.com/en/dfrobotshop … c-kit.html (Bare bones - can be connected via USB. This includes no accessories)
robotshop.com/en/dfrobotshop … h-kit.html (Bluetooth wireless control. We do not have our own app, but there are several which are compatible for use on Android)
robotshop.com/en/dfrobotshop … e-kit.html (Longer range RF control from a computer or laptop)
robotshop.com/en/mini-dfrobo … o-uno.html (Mini Rover which includes a universal IR receiver, so you can program it to accept and understand commands from a universal R remote control)
The idea is that it is an inexpensive mobile robot with an onboard Arduino microcontroller. We will likely release an autonomous kit in the future.
There is no specific controller, but a Bluetooth enabled cell phone running one of the compatible serial terminal apps works well.
If you want to use your own XBee module, you’ll need to buy the compatible 2mm pitch pin headers. Based on your requirements, you likely won’t need it.
Only the XBee version requires a little bit of soldering. There are work-arounds though so you don’t have a solder (purchasing an additional product)
