DFRobotShop Rover Parts and Capability

Hi,

I would like to purchase the DFRobotShop Rover for a family member who is turning 16 and loves robots and computers. Do I also need to buy a USB cable to make it work? Also, is the purpose if this robot so that you get to program it to move forwards and backwards or does it do anything else?

The DFRobotShop Rover would be a great gift for a 16 year old who has an interest in robotics.
We did not include the USB cable mainly because people involved in robotics usually have this type of USB cable already.

The DFRobotShop Rover Basic Kit (RB-Rbo-33) is intended to be a programmable mobile platform based on the very popular “Arduino” microcontroller. Just like a tank, it can move forward / backward / left / right / arc / climb. It is a bare-bones platform for those who may already have a selection of parts / sensors they wish to add.

A user can:

• Add sensors to create an autonomous robot (line following, motion tracking etc.)
• Add communication devices to make it remotely controlled (such as the DFRobotShop Rover XBee, speech control and Bluetooth kits)
• Educational tool for prototyping, learning and development
