DFI Lens missing? Litter Robot-3 Order Number: #923551

Hi,

I was getting the blinking light error and notification on my Litter Robot App that my litter robot was full even when I just replaced the bag. I looked up a forum post for troubleshooting guidance and attempted to power cycle the unit but it didn’t work. I then proceeded to take out the globe, cover, and base and clean the DFI lens with a soft cloth. But the forum post indicated that there should be two DFI lenses and 2 circuits, however, my Litter Robot seemed to only have one per attached pictures. It looks like one of the circuit holders is empty. Please advise if this is a defect or error. In addition I noticed two wires/leads/clips at the bottom of the litter robot taped on. Are these spare or do they need to be connected to something? It seems odd. Please see attached image of missing circuit holder. Thank you.

Hi @ksmoorthy87,

Two wires that are not connected are for a backup battery. You can buy and install backup battery so your robot can continue working if any power outage happens.

Regarding the DFI sensor. Old DFI sensor was based on IR light. So, it had two circuit boards, one for emitting IR light and one for receiving IR light. New DFI sensor is based on laser so it has only one circuit board. Same as before, covers on circuit boards should be cleaned from time to time.

Also, the app uses an algorithm to estimate how full the unit is based on the number of times it normally has to cycle for the unit to be full. The unit does know when the drawer is totally full but anything before that is an estimation. Over time, once the app has compiled more data, the estimation will become more accurate.

To reset DFI sensor fault on a Connect Litter Robot please hold Reset button until the blue light blinks quickly. After that, it should come to solid blue light.

If it continues to get this error after every one or two cycle, please write us to [email protected]

Hi thanks a lot for that response and clarifying the design changes.

One other issue I’m having with the robot is wifi connectivity when I’m outside the house. It seems to randomly go offline and not return which makes it impossible to know if the litter box is full if I’m on an extended trip.

We have a powered up IPad close to the litter box with app connectivity thinking that would help similar to some wifi cameras but this has not helped much. Any ideas on how to improve reliability of the wifi and app connectivity ?

Thanks,

Krishna
