Hi

I wonder if I can use LiPo batteries and connect an RC transmitter to this robot, see image below?

Sort of. The DFRobot 4WD Arduino-Compatible Platform w/Encoders (RB-Dfr-67) uses motors which operate at 4.5V to 6V nominal. Although they can be used at 7.4V (using a LiPo battery), they will be operating less efficiently, and as such, their operating life span will be reduced. The platforms includes encoders which you would not really need. In order to use an RC transmitter / receiver, you would only need a brushed DC motor controller which accepts RC signals. A popular choice would be the Sabertooth.
