Designing Swimming TouchPad Sensor!

[size=]Hi

I am trying to design a TouchPad which will be used in swimming Competition!
The Official Dimension of This touchpad is 90x244cm and it will be mounted on the Pool walls on both sides!
here two pictures of such a touchpad!

Most of the touchPads are made from Tape Switches which is a mechanical solution and therefore do Not have enough Sensivity near borders;
I am trying to make such thing using a Capacitive Pad or some kind of other sensors!

It should be waterproof and robust enough!
Does any body have any Idea that whats the best solution?

Hi Shahriar,

That’s an interesting design project. You could try to use infrared sensors. (sort of like a multitouch surface or a rain detector on a windshield).
