DC Motor Controller Specifications

I have a box of 12 Volt DC motors that lack specifications. I would like to buy a number of controllers for them so that I can use them in projects. I need to know what controllers will work with these motors. I bought some $12 controllers from eBay; they did work for about 10 seconds until the fuse burned out. So here is what I know about the motors:

They come from an old TinyTykes Toy car that lets a child drive up and down the sidewalk, so the motors are quite powerful, maybe 1/8 to 1/4 HP. The main body measures about 2 inches diameter and 2 5/8 inches long. There are no specs on the motor. It looks similar to your Product Code : RB-Ban-239 motor.

What controllers do you sell that could be used for these motors?

Although the motor might look like RB-Ban-239, these motors vary wildly in specs. Ideally you should use a multimeter to check the current under load and then choose a controller accordingly.
Take a look at the following article, specifically DC motor controllers: robotshop.com/blog/en/how-to … oller-3695
If it’s 1/4HP, or 186W, and 12V nominal that means the maximum current would be somewhere around 186 / 12 = 15.5 amps. Ideally you would need to know if that’s stall or continuous power.
If it’s continuous power under load, then you need a DC motor controller which can handle 12V and at least 15.5A (ideally more).
