DC Hub Motors for Robots: Suggestions, Controllers, etc?

Hi all,

I’m an artist working on a new robotic sculpture. Previously I made a car tire that bangs itself into a wall over and over, drawing tire marks along the gallery wall. It’s not much compared to what you all have created, but It’s my humble attempts / beginnings!

For my next sculpture, I am making a balancing 2 wheeled sculpture like a DIY segway that balances and drifts in the center of a room.

I’d like to use a pair of DC hub motors like the segway mini pro hoverboard, to save space and hide the motors.

**1. Has anyone had success with DC hub motors? **
2. Specifically using 54v hub motors from a segway ninebot mini pro?

I am curious how difficult it would be to drive these motors (and their wiring diagrams). So far I have not found any diagrams of how these motors are driven.

Thanks so much everyone!

I have no experience with Wheel hub motor but I’m really interested in building a small electric scooter someday. So I’ve search for various source online to find the cheapest electric wheel and couldn’t find anything really cheap.

Make sure you post your projects in the ‘‘Robots’’ section since it could interest many of us.
