In hooking the L5 arm to the computer you obviously need a cable pin port to plug in the other end of the data cable from arm to pc… my computer on has one such port which is occupied… how do i connect the arm to my pc in this instance?
ALSO
if i mount the arm to a rover operated with a ps2 type controller was it pointless attaching the ssc32 to the arm?
At the risk of overstating the obvious you will need to remove the device, could have mentioned what it actually was, in order to use the serial port. If that is not possible because it’s a serial mouse or something there are some options. You can use a USB to serial cable, or add a card with more serial ports.
This guide has information on acceptable USB to serial cables and additional serial communication troubleshooting information. lynxmotion.net/viewtopic.php?t=4702
You probably need to get a USB to serial adapter to connect your SSC-32 to your computer. As for which one, there are several. Do a search up here to find out which ones people have luck with to program Atom Pros. Or you might wait a bit and get a new SSC-32 when they come out with a USB interface built on.
As for as rover and SSC-32. My last version had the SSC-32 as well as the Atom Pro. I am in the process of reconfiguring to be closer to what Xan had on his. My Arm components should arrive today! The good part of not using the SSC-32 on the rover is it makes the rover look nicer without it… The upside of having an SSC-32 on the rover is it gives you more IO pins to play with. So really the choice is yours.
I use many different serial devices including the Basic stamp, Fishertek stuff, legos, and others, and there is only one usb to serial adapter that works with all of them. No Glitches, no hassles.
generally speaking people have good luck using adapters based on the FTDI chipsets. there are more than a few posts on this subject scattered across the forum.
Ok thanks I now have a usb to serial cable… i have plugged all necessary chords into the ssc and switched power on… led lights up green. I have read other posts about flashing green means receiving data etc… but couldnt follow threads enough to mimic my problem.
My L5 arm moved when i first plugged in and turned on and it has not moved since. The green light does not flash and just stays on green.
got lynxterm pressed all=1500 nothing happened. There were three COM ports available 3, 8 and 9 tried all and all connected me fine but my arm has not moved
