Does the Darwin mini firmware need to be updated right out the box or is it capable of being used without firmware updates?
You should not need to update the firmware immediately - it is functional out of the box.
Nevertheless, it’s always good to check the manufacturer’s website (and software) to see if updates are available (minor bug fixes, improved functionality etc).
Should I purchase the LN-101 to do the firmware updates or is there another way?
The Darwin mini uses the OpenCM9.04 microcontroller, which, according to the manufacturer’s website, can be updated via the USB port, and does not need the LN-101.We encourage you to read through these sections thoroughly to be certain, but it seems like you will not need the LN-101.
I have read though these documents and watched YouTube videos. Pretty confusing stuff, thank you, I will give it a shot.
Once again, you should be able to use the Darwin Mini out of the box without issue.
