Dagu 4 channel motor controller Specs

Hi All,

I was just wondering what the maximum input current would be for the dagu 4 channel motor controller.

I have built this circuit https://www.robotshop.com/letsmakerobots/node/3880 to power my robot (the third one down).

I didnt have a multimeter at the time i finished it so thinking optimistically i plugged it in and switched it on only to get smoke coming from the motor controller board.

I since got my multimeter back and tested the power circuit, it is giving the correct voltages (5V and 7.5V). I triple checked the wiring and its connected properly, (5V to Vcc and 7.5V to Vbat).

This is the battery im using https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11856 could it be too much current??

Im a bit confused with battery theory but i thought it would only supply the current the system draws??

i have all the wiring

i have all the wiring correct. Could it be that the motor power and logic power are coming on at the same time? I have read that you need to connect logic first which im not doing. What is the reason for this?
