Current-Torque Values

Hello,

is it possible to know what current will be drawn for certain torque values for this motor. the main torques i am concerned with are 3Nm-8Nm.

Thanks

Hi,

These torque values are below the torque at max efficiency of this motor (which is around 12 Nm).

After a bit of napkin math, the current draw of this motor for 3Nm to 8Nm should be between 1 and 2.5 Amps approximately.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
that is great thank you. could i have the maths equations please so i can apply it myself in future?
Thanks

Hey,

Yes, I simply used cross product and a torque conversion website (available here).

You have to take the stall current (20A) and the stall torque (8110.2 oz-in or 57.27 Nm).

Then you pick the torque you want to know the current drawn at (8 Nm):

torque

I then simply did the following: (8 x 20) / 57.27 = 2.79

At 8 Nm the motor should draw around 2.79 Amps.

At 3 Nm: (3 x 20) / 57.29 = 1.04 Amps

I would also add the no load current to be sure (0.54A).

3 Nm = 1.04 + 0.54 = 1.58A
8 Nm = 2.79 + 0.54 = 3.33A

It should be between 1.6 and 3.4 Amps (instead of the 1 to 2.5 Amps I said at first).

It really is nothing else but napkin maths, it helps me have an idea but it is always a good idea to actually measure the current drawn with a multimeter.

If anyone can correct me or have a better way to find out the current drawn at a particular torque I would appreciate it

Hope this helps.

Note that these are calculated based on a 12V power source.
