This rather long video shows a car ballancing on two wheels. It is very impressive.
The video is well done and fun to watch.

This is an amazing robot and it has given me some new ideas I want to try out with W.A.L.T.E.R. once I get some more processing power on him. I love the way this builder has done the balancing for this robot! It should be possible to use this four wheel balancing setup to have the robot use either full 4WD or 2WD balancing locomotion.

I don’t know linuxguy, You’re W.A.L.T.E.R would need some serious Mods to be able to do that.
That video was awesome! I loved the way that no matter how hard he hit it, That little thing would stay on its fee…erm umm…Wheels. Hey mike, WHy not put you’re little bot head on there.
that was really cool! I want one!
No, actually W.A.L.T.E.R. would not need to be modified to accomplish this sort of balancing/4WD type of setup. I already have a couple ideas of how it might be done.
With the new decks that Alan (KM6VV) is making for me from my designs, there are more possibilities for expansion than I can even think of right now.

With that DSPIC and IDG-300 gyro, I’ll bet a bipod could be made to walk pretty good! Probably need some additional upper body weight to allow fast corrections.
Probably WALTER too.

I was thinking the same thing; this type of balancing would be nice to have on a biped for sure. It’s a little to advanced for me though.
I do have the 3-Axis accelerometer and Honeywell I2C compass modules. One of the reasons I designed the new decks to have the wheels centered within the diameter of the body is to make it possible to experiment with balancing. I’ve put quite a bit of thought into my new deck designs.

Yeah, I hear that! A lot of complex code just to get the correction vectors. Then you’d have to apply it in an “IK” fashion to the joints of the legs while standing or during a gait.
I bought a 2 axis accelerator that I intend to add to my legged 'Bot. I’m hoping that this will allow me to keep the body level while climbing obstacles. But first I’ve got a new sonar module to play with.
