Controller lagging?

I acquired an LM 5 arm off eBay. Controller seems to be running 1.03 firmware. Only the base rotates off the bat with RIOS.
With LynxTerm I managed to get some response out of 4 of the rotation points.
I am left wondering whether the controller or a couple of the servos (or both) are hosed.
I ran through the example interaction, but the response seems slow from the controller. I had to reset it a couple of times.
Just how fast does the SSC32 respond to an input?
Does it hang if I type too fast? (Seems odd if it did, but…)
Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated.

You may be using a less than adequate power supply. Do you get a significant voltage drop when you move the servos?
