I’m planning to build a RC controlled rover with wild thumper 6WD chassis for mounting a DSLR camera with perhaps a tilt/pan added later.
I see that T’Rex Controller, a popular recommendation to be used with wild thumper, has been discontinued. One of the reasons I was going for T’Rex controller is supplied code that works out of the box with a standard RC receiver. I am looking for suggestions of a motor controller that provides basic functions for the rover with additional function for tilt/pan and perhaps one or two camera triggers that could be added later.
I see the price of Arduino controllers vary from $20 to $100. Can you provide guidelines or recommendations for choosing a motor controller that is not very expensive and one that doesn’t require a lot of programming or assembly since I am new to this? Thanks!
Hi,
The motors of the Dagu Wild Thumper are DC Brushed Motors. Therefore, you’ll need appropriate DC Motor Controllers for these motors. Here is some examples/suggestions :
]Pololu 18v15, 5.5-30V, 15A Motor Controller (RB-Pol-155) wide selection of control interfaces: USB, TTL serial, analog voltage, and RC. These controllers are highly configurable and the USB interface makes them very easy to set up and use. Since the RB-Pol-155 is a single-channel controller, you would need to use two with the Wild Thumper, one for each side of the chassis./:m]
]Pololu TReX 13A 6-16V Dual Motor Controller (RB-Pol-33) Offers an RC interface for human control and a serial interface for autonomous operation, and it features the ability to blend the two to make a robot that can optionally respond to RC control. The TReX is a dual motor controller, so you can control the chassis with a single unit./:m]
Hope this helps.
