Connections to make motors work with on board controller

Hi,

I was just wondering what were the wire connections needed to make the motors work with the on board controller. I know I need to connect the motors to M1 and M2. Is there anything else?

Thank you.

Hi,

In general, a motor controller board needs to be wired to both poles of a DC motor. If you have a servomotor, there is usually only 1 signal pin. If instead it is a stepper motor, it may have many more pins.

If by board controller you mean a microcontroller board, in most cases you should not connect it directly to motor pins as this would most likely damage it.

To provide you with more complete advice, we would need more details on the what your board controller is.

Please provide us with a product code, URL or even an image in your reply and then we can help guide you better.

Sincerely,

What I mean by ‘‘on board controller’’ is that it’s the built-in Arduino board that comes with the robot.

Euh the rover V2 kit I mean.

Two wires from the left motor screw into the left terminal, and two wires from the right motor screw into the right terminal, as per the assembly video:

We strongly suggest leaving all the spare length of wire in case one motor turns the “wrong way”, you can just swap the wires. Trim the excess only after you’re certain that the setup works.
