I am trying to control my arm remotly using a Mini ABB (along with a Basic micro 28 pin) and a PS2 controller…but i am having connection problems between the Mini ABB and my computer…i am using a regular DB9 pin serial data cable (one i got from lynxmotion and one from Compusa)…i dont know if it might be my computer, but i am using a Dell Inspirion notebook…also i have downloaded the basic micro software from basicmicro.com and am using the program provided by lynxmotion…please help. If you need more information, reply and I will supply it.
Here are some photos of the connection I have set up.
i read the link and understand it but i am not using a usb cable…i am using a db9 serial data cable and i have connected the mini abb to a 7.2vdc battery… if you could just look at the pictures and tell me if my connections are right??? thank you also any other problems that may be common…because it is still no connecting thanks again
You have to make sure your serial port is configured as the post I linked even if it is a normal DB9 serial port. What version of the editor are you using? I think the code was written for 2.2.1.1. I looked at the connection images and nothing looks wrong, but I am not sure about the battery wire being soldered onto the board. I also can’t tell if the PS2 calbe is connected right, but that would have no effect on being able to program the atom. You say you are having connection problems. Are you getting an error? Are you able to program the atom?
i am using both the 2.2.1.1 and the 5.3.1.0 versions…and just for clarification the battery wires are not soldered on they are just put through the ports. and as for an error we are not getting one of those it just says it is unable to connect. when we ran the diagnostics for the program everything was fine and it said it was ready to program. the only problem i am having is the connection and i will try all of your suggestions and get back to you. thanks
(so essentially i need to change some setting for my ports and then the mini abb should connect???)
The serial port setting are a potential for problems, but I can not say for sure if it’s what is causing your problems. Do you have a volt meter so you can check that the Bot Board has 5vdc from the regulator? No sense working on serial port settings if the battery is low.

i dont have a volt meter but i have tried everything else you’ve told me. i am pretty sure its getting power though because i have used multiple batteries and also the 6vdc wall adapter. Also the ps2 controller im suing lights up, so it is probably getting power.
Any more suggestions?
The clicking sound is the program installed at the factory.
Do you have any software installed that uses the serial port? PDA interface, any other serial devices.
Have you tried changing the serial port, oir serial port settings within the IDE?
Do you have another PC you can try it on to further eliminate the possible problems? If it will work on one PC and not another you know it;s the PC. If it will not work on several PC’s it’s the Atom module or cable, or Bot Board.
Have you successfully used the serial port with other applications?
