Complete noob, any advice?

So, I recently got interested in making robots as a hobby... Only problem is I have no previous experience with robotics, programming, or electronics. Any ideas on how or where I should start? I don't know anyone in my family or friends that could help me out, and I can't find any robotics clubs/groups in my area... Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Advice

The best thing you can do is start small.

Shetchup and the Arduino IDE are free downloads and are my most used tools

Once you get your arduino start by tring the built in examples.

Arduino starter kits run from $60 to $100 and are easy to describe to people who might spend that kind of money on a gift for you. If that is too expensive all you relay need to start with arduino is a arduino uno a small solder-less breadboard a few inexpensive components and some jumper wires.

Read about the projects other people built to get an idea of what you want to try.

I have lots more advice in me but that should get you started.

Starter Kit

Exactly what RobotGoldfish indicated - a starter kit is a great way to become involved, and Arduino is all the rage:

Even if an in-person community gruop is possible, you are more than welcome here!

Okay, thank you guys so

Okay, thank you guys so much! I appreciate the help!

Parts

Welcome to the “club” of robot builders. If you’re wanting to get started cheaply, don’t overlook “throw away” items to strip out for parts to build up your inventory. Items to watch out for are Power wheel type vehicles, electric scooters, UPSs, VCRs, (the older the better), alarm systems, remote controlled toys, and the like. They are a great source of batteries, motors, gears, sensors, transistors, LEDs, wire, connectors, and hardware like aluminum, screws, and heat sinks.

Cruise your neighborhood on trash day and you may find these items sitting by the curb for free. You might also have neighbors, friends, or relatives who would give them to you once you explain to them what you’re doing.

Get yourself some plastic cabinets so you can sort out the usable parts so you can find them when you need them, (Dollar stores are a great source for these. Buy yourself a DVM, (Digital Voltmeter), or get a free one at Harbor Freight, (with coupon), and start watching the thousands of videos on Youtube to get a crash course in robotics.

Good luck.

I will make sure to start

I will make sure to start doing all of that. Thanks for the help! I truly appreciate it.
