Competitive Walking

I am interested in building a competitive walking shoe that would be able to distinguish the difference between walking and running. The definition of walking is there must be bottom-of-foot-pressure against the ground at all times by at least one foot. I would envision this product would be similar to a sport walking shoe but the pressure sensors in the shoe would talk to a wireless device such as a smart phone. If the device gets a signal where both feet are off the ground it would record an incident of running and a penalty could be assigned for the amount and frequency of “air” time. The value of this product would be to self judge the competitors of competitive walking for the Olympics and other competitive walking events. I would appreciate your ideas on this proposal!

Hi Glenn,

That a cool project however we cannot do consulting for customers.
Lot of different ways can be used to achieve this including Accelerometer / Gyroscope / Microcontroller and Bluetooth modules.

DiaLFonZo - I do have an electrical engineer working with me on this project. Could you at least suggest what supplies I need to start this project. We do not know enough about the inputs of the pressure strips to tell if we need any other materials other than the pressure strips. Is it possible to real time sync the two pressure strips together to determine an air lift gait?

Hi Glenn,

All of this would need to be tested on your end, it’s not something we can suggest.
You have to get the information input and you need to have your two system talk together for synchronization if needed.
