I’m interested in purchasing my first robot kit and I have laid my eyes on the Arduino Robot kit. As far as I understand it, the robot got like no sensors at all but a lot of connectors. But how do I find out what to purchase? Of course it depends on what I want to do, so let’s say for an example I want the robot to be able to follow a line, so I need an infrared sensor I guess - but how do I know it’s compatible with the Arduino? Is there a list with recommended hardware? I would also be interested in stuff like a camera, WIFI or microphone.
Thank you for clarifying. We did not suspect the Arduino 2WD robot because it includes a variety of sensors and I/O onboard:

]Speaker/:m]
]Compass/:m]
]Knob/:m]
]LEDs/:m]
]Control Pad/:m]
]IR array/:m]
The robot is not shield compatible. Out of the box, it’s great for line following. We offer the EasyVR speech recognition module in non-shield format as well, though you would likely need to solder pins to the top of the board.
RB-Dfr-16 does not actually include the microcontroller itself either. Therefore in addition to the 2WD platform, we suggest a ROMEO microcontroller, about three infrared switches and perhaps encoders. To make wiring easier, you would benefit from a 9V wiring harness. You can try a WiFi shield, and you might try playing with a speech recognition module. At this time we don’t have any Arduino-compatible or WiFI cameras.
When you consider shields, it’s very important to check which pins are used, because if you have a pin used by two shields, the two will likely not work together. We have not checked pin compatibility for the products suggested here.
Thanks for the reply, but I was talking about this Robot Kit: arduino.cc/en/Main/Robot
I don’t think I can connect Shields to it, can I? Than it would be easy and I could just order the Speech recognition module which is pretty awesome according to your youtube video (the rover project).
And apparently this robot kit already comes with infrared at the bottom part.
