That’s too bad. That would have been beatiful with custom made parts and all. I guess it’s too complexe for the programming.
I think that it’s starting to look like a scorpion too!
Chunga, indirect drive is something like this i believe :
As for wich servo we chould use, if we could use the 805 for lifting and the 645’s for turning + knee inderet if we use the 645 and direct if we use low profile servos.
We could probably use 12 servos at this point, the 645 for turning and the 805’s for lifting with an attachment like in the picture above.
We could ust hide the 805 in the main body so it woulnd’t look like it’s really huge.
I think so too, like 6 645’s and 6 805’s could do the job, with indirect drive. If you do the legs about like the normal LM legs, the software will work fine.
That is also what I had in mind. I’m trying to decide if we should just spend the money and buy 6 low profile 100 oz servos and 12 HS645’s. Go with direct drive, custom made parts.
OK, I got a source for some Hitec Aileron Servos. They are low profile and 70ish oz/in each. We got them for $20 each. I also have 12 HS-645’s on the way.
So I’m thinking we could try, direct drive, HS-645’s on the hip rotate and vertical and the low profile for the knee. They are about half as high as a standard servo. This will keep the legs thin enough to fit skins over. If the 70oz low profiles aren’t cutting it, we can switch them for HS-645’s.
I have a feeling using 805’s for indirect drive is just more work than I would like. lol After seeing Zenta’s phoenix videos, I’m insanely impressed. I’m hoping we can shoot for similar dimensions as his and possibly use his excel program for our walking seq.
What do you guys think? Not real crazy different but we will custom make the tibia and fibula to look more like a scorpion leg. And we’ll be less tnan half as heavy than if we used hs-805’s.
Hey guys, i know this isn’t what we are working a tthe moment, but i worked on a little design for the tail today and if you guys want i could post it up, it consists of a inner frame that would be surrounded by a light exoskeleton (harhar bug talk ) in the shape of the tail. it works with springs and a wires
i just hope it will work, i think it will…atleast in theory
i designed the tail to move with the help of a single wire, and the stinger actually has a 2nd wire (from a micro servo) so that it can be moved separatley for a wee bit of realism
again, a little off the topic of legs, its just i had 2 studies in school today (yay ) and i had nothing to do
the direct drive sounds like a good idea, it will make it more realistic…although pretty expensive…
Ok, good news, bad news. Good news is my next day delivery of servos arrived. Bad news, most of them weren’t available. I only got 2 low profiles, and 9 HS-645’s. So the other 3 645’s and the other 4 low pros will be here in a week or so.
No, you would want the springs to be contraction. That way, when the servo is at “rest”, the tail is laid back. When the servo actuates, the tail is drawn forward to strike.
Right, sienna has it right, probably would put a limit in there to how far back the tail could rest, you could use expansion, but then you’d have to put the wire around the back, howeever, the servo would always be trying to keep the srpings compressed and itd make it really hard on the servo cause itd be constanly pulling voltage, even at rest
It’d prbably be best to use 2 servos for this depending on the size and the springs needed to keep it upright. also with that little cage down at the bottom holding the servo, we could mount it on a pan or something so it could turn left and right, or have it tilt side to side…i don’t think it would pan in real life
last thing, the servo might not provide enough motion, like it may just look like a little twitch, so something should probably be done about that drive system, im not sure wat though
i’ll be thinking about it, if you guys have any idea, then post it
Sounds like a good idea. I’m working on the body right now. I’m cutting out some trial bodies to see what they look like.
Update: top body cut out. I’ll post a pic tonight after 9:00
Also, good news. My source found the other three HS-645’s and 4 more HS-77 Low Profiles. So they were overnighted today. That means we’ll have them on Monday. Woo Hoo.
By the end of the weekend I hope for us to get the body finished and a couple of legs done once we agree on a design.
Directly involved, its evo, this is as it says, a community hex, and evo wanted to make it, so he is providing the money/material/time for building/design ideas while everyone who wants to input anything can, thats design/ideas/buffalo wings
