Communication

Hello, i am having trouble with my AL5D 4DOF connecting to my board. The servo can not seem to find it even when i have reset it multiple times.

May be related to this issue.

We have set it to off, then to 9600, and still no communication between server and robot.

if anyone could help that would be great. Thank you

Hi,

First, please provide some more details:

  1. What software are you using to connect tot he AL5D:

][RB-Dsp-11]/:m]
][RB-Dsp-06]/:m]
][RB-Dsp-07]/:m]
][Free diagnostic tool for SSC-32/SSC-32U]/:m]

  1. How is your AL5D connected currently? Do you have a version with the SSC-32U? If so, did you also connect the 6 V 5 A power source and turn it on?

  2. With your AL5D connected to the power source but not to the computer (unplug the USB cable), turn on the switch for the power source. The blue PWR LED should turn on.
Then, press once on the BAUD button near the XBee socket/USB port. You should have the green LED blink quickly for a few seconds. If you get any other result, please let us know in your reply.

We await your reply to further help you.

Sincerely,

We have pressed the baud button after the previous steps. Our outcome is the green and red light flashes back and forth and then remains lit. We are using the free download SSC-32 Servo utility.

The first response we gave you was after we held the baud button down for a few seconds we just now just pushed the baud button and the lights blinked and then both lights went completely off.

Hi,

As you can see in the SSC-32U manual (page 34, bottom half), if both green & red flash it indicates the board is set to 115200 baud rate, not 9600. If both LEDs stay off, it means a custom baud rate.

Please either change the baud rate of the SSC-32U using the baud button or change the settings in the software so that both match.

Let us know if that helps.

Sincerely,

Our school purchased 3 of the Al5D. One of the robots works great using the same SSC-32U Servo but it is set at 115200 baud and automatically goes to COM 4. The other two exact same robots and servos does not work the same way. What are we doing wrong with other two? We have tried resetting the baud as you suggested and set the baud rate to 9600 and still no good results. What else can we do?

You mention changing the baud rate to 9600. Do you mean on the two remaining SSC-32U?
If so, please check that only their green LED blinks if you press the baud button (after a full power cycle/reset of the board).
