CNC using arduino

I am thinking of building a small cnc machine to cut foam board . I have an idea on how to build it I just want recommended electronics .
It will be approx. large enough to cut a 30" x 20" piece of 3/16 foam board . I was thinking of using an arduino with 3 stepper motors.
Can anyone recommend everything I would need for this as far as electrical ie stepper motor sizes, arduino , drivers, power supliy size etc…

thanks

Hi 81zapper,

The choice of stepper / driver / supply will require you to know better about your overall project.
A good stepper driver that is widely used in the DIY CNC would be the RB-Mab-157.

You might also look at the MakeBlock XY Plotters:
Makeblock XY-Plotter Robot Kit v2.0 (With Electronics)
Makeblock XY-Plotter Robot Kit V2.0 (No Electronics)

The RB-Mab-157 looks interesting. Do you know what chip its based on? And specs?

Hey Alan…! Got to meet on a thread about CNC …
This stepper controller is probably a re-branded version of the widely used controller in the industry.
At the moment, we do not have the information about what’s inside but HERE is the manual from MakeBlock.

I can request more info if you really need it

Hi Eric!

Thanks for the info. Looks like a good deal for an inexpensive stepper driver. I can’t build them for that. Might have to get a couple for an up coming project.
