We’re looking to buy a desktop cnc router, to drill holes, cut a window .25 x .25 and to a little recess inside the casing.
Material is Lexan grade EXL9330 thickness approx 0.003’’ the size of our product is a bit bigger then a hockey puck.
Which cnc desktop would be better suited for this type of work.
The size you mention is pretty small and don’t know of any which cannot cut that size. Although some are not powerful enough for metal, end mills can normally cut through plastic like Lexan.
You really just need to determine if you want to purchase a larger machine for potential future applications, if you want a machine that can also engrave (again, future applications) etc.
If you want something robust, Sherline’s lineup is really popular (the CNC upgrade package is sold separately), for example:
Thanks a lot Mr. cbenson The links are helpful for many who are looking for a standalone CNC machine. Does robotshop provide any warranty for these products?
Thanks for the info, we need to machine our part dry no lubricant.
A) Sherline CNCs tend not to include lubricant / cooling anyway.
I forgot to ask, we use Solidworks can the Sherline use it?
A) You would not use SolidWorks directly with the CNC - you need a Linux-based machine to run their software, and you export from SolidWorks into the format used by their software.
