Claw versus plow

Hello i tried to find this inf9 just by doing ageneral search but found nothing that could help my son. He is the 7th grade and robotics club and needs to build a robot for a competition capable of grabbing and placing various size objects around a game board .My son believes using a claw type arm will work best. His team mates however think a plow type plaform with pieces added tostabil8ze from both sides and the top is the best way to gab, move ,and properly place various size objects .What i was you experts could help me with is mayb3 a few pros pros an3 cons of building and operating a robot with a claw 5ype grasping arm versus one with a fscoop tupe platform .I would be be very grateful for any a and all feedback and suggestion .

Are there any additional constraints for the competition? If you want a robot arm, it will need to be able to reach everywhere on the board (which will determine the necessary dimensions). Do you have a team budget? If you can show a few drawings / images of the board and the objects it would be very helpful.

Not sure what you mean by a “plow” approach - can you give an example?
