Cheap digital compass, does anyone have experience with it?

Hi LMR people,

Looking for a digital compass for my robot, I found this interesting Dual-axis Magnetic Sensor Module with UART& I 2 c Interface for $16.

link: http://www.sureelectronics.net/goods.php?id=958 and http://www.sure-electronics.net/download/DC-SS504_Ver1.0_EN.pdf

does anyone have experience with it? I noticed there is also a cheaper version without the usart function for 5 dollar. http://www.sureelectronics.net/goods.php?id=944 sounds really cheap, but does it work good? anyone already used one of these?

Have never used one myself

Have never used one myself but the prices look good. Thanks for the link.

Unless your micro doesn`t have an I2C interface I would take the one that is essentially the same but 1/3 the price. The more expensive one simply has an embedded PIC providing a serial port. The sensor chips are exactly the same.

I wish they had a tilt

I wish they had a tilt compensated one. I have only found one under $100.

The compasses I use are I2C and I see that as a plus; too many things are serial and you run out since each serial device needs a serial port. I2C devices share.
