i want to buy a kit SUMO viper but i want to use encoder kit with it
the motors sell with the kit are GHM -02 can i change for GHM 04 ??

No, there is not enough room inside the body to do that. The encoders increase the over all length of the motor body. Which will run into each other when assembling.
If you need feedback from the motors, you will need to monitor the actual wheel motion. One thing that might work is the Wheel Watcher encoder from Nubotics (www.nubotics.com). Though they are designed for servos, they might work well in the Viper. If not, the same concept will work.

There is a version for motors also, but they are designed to work with the Solarbotics motors. I don’t know if these would work with the GHM series motors sold by Lynxmotion. I’ve considered getting some to see if they would be compatible with motors like the GHM series, but have had other projects at a higher priority. Nubotics definitely has some interesting hardware I would like to work with at some point.

and one motor lenght with encoder are only 48mm

You could glue or double sided tape the encoder on. It does not have hole patterns compatible with the LM motors.

The distance between the two panels is 4.125" and Pete is correct that the GHM-04’s will not fit.

because want to use my GHM4 with encoder kit buy another kit is expensive and i don’t have a lot of money to built autonomous robot
