Can the RPLidar A1M8 be used for ranging in a static position?

I plan on using the the RPLidar A1M8 with an eSP8266 or maybe an UNO but either way I will be using the Arduino library. I have looked over the code samples and have a question. I am thinking about using the device with a stepper motor whereby the azimuth is being controlled by me instead of a constant rotation by the onboard motor. I would do this by switching the belt from the motor to a pulley on my stepper and setting the motor speed to 0 in the code. I was wondering if the firmware allows for this, or does it not send range data to the serial port unless the turret is constantly spinning?

Thank you.

@rick_s Welcome to the RobotShop Community. That’s a question which is likely only answerable by the manufacturer. We’ll have a tech reach out to them and get back to you as soon as they receive a reply.
