I have a 2 DOF MH2 Hexapod and our team is working on a project to traverse the creature on uneven surfaces. I wan’t to know what kind of sensors I/We can use on this creature to make it more intelligent.
We figured that we can make use of IR and Sonar for sure.
How about a Hexapod Foot Sensor?

Are you talking about terain adapting hexapod like this?
This picture is of the terain adapting hexapod “Khan”. He uses foot pressure sensors to automatically spread out weight on all six legs. The source code for Basic Stamp 2 can be found here.KhanMain1.bs2 (13.4 KB)
Yeah, we are willing to emulate the same in a different way…moreover we also want the robot to avoid obstacles and do some path planning and stuff…
We learned that sonar and IR can be used with MH2 MINI Hexapod. But, we are very curious to make use of the foot sensor which can help us a lot in traversing on uneven surfaces. And, we are not sure whether we can make use of foot sensors with a 2 DOF creature(Intelligent).
Thanks for your kind help and support.

If you were to use a hexapod foot sensor I’m pretty sure you would have to somewhat modify the design a little bit. You might even need to build some custom hexapod legs like the ones in the picture that are bent at enough of an angle to allow the sensor to be able to more directly contact the surface but, I’m pretty sure the hexapod foot sensor can be used on a 2dof hex with a little bit of tinkering.
