Can I use a Unitree robot without knowing how to program?

Unitree robots come with a limited set of demonstration functions that can be used out ‑of‑the‑box. Quadrupeds like the Go2 can walk, trot, run and recover from pushes using the built‑in balancing controller. Humanoid models can perform predefined gestures and poses, and most robots include a mobile app or handheld remote for teleoperation. You can show off the robot and explore its basic capabilities without writing any code.

However, making the robot perform useful real‑world tasks – such as autonomous navigation, manipulation or human‑robot interaction – requires programming and system integration. Only certain versions (for example, the EDU variants of the Go2, G1/R1 humanoids and H series) provide a development computer and software support for custom code. Demonstration versions lack open interfaces for advanced development. Practical applications often rely on ROS/ROS2, perception, planning and safety logic, and may require collaboration with an experienced robotics developer or integrator.
