Can I use 7.2v?

Hi to all,
my first hexapod has arrived (CH3-R), 2 nights awake and all the “hardware is almost done”…

Now the first questions start to happen…

The pdf docs says I can connect a 7.2v battery to the SSC32 (and the Bot board) to operate it… well it seems to me everybody uses a 6.v battery.

Which one should I buy???

by the way servos are the Hitec HS-475HB.

Thankyou so much and best regard from Italy!
Andrea

Rated voltage is 4-6v, anything higher then that and you run the risk of burning up your servos, if not drastically reducing their lifespan.

7.2v is fine for rovers using DC motors.

Step 2 of the The Complete H3/H3-R Tutorial v1.0 specifically states to use a 6.0vdc battery. One person who was writing an article for the older EH3-R insisted on using 7.2vdc batteries no matter what I told him. He routinely broke gears and complained to me that my kit should have included better servos. H3-R - 475 servos - 7.2vdc battery = broken gears and sad robot builders. :open_mouth:
